**Job Title**: Engineering Lead
**Role Summary**: Lead small, high‑performing Agile engineering teams (4–8 engineers) to deliver secure, scalable software solutions in the UK National Security domain. Responsibilities combine hands‑on development, architecture, and leadership, with a focus on AI data platforms and cloud‑native systems.
**Expectations**:
- Manage and mentor cross‑functional engineers in a fast‑moving Agile environment.
- Own end‑to‑end architecture decisions, ensuring security and compliance for constrained operational contexts.
- Drive rapid delivery through DevSecOps practices and continuous improvement.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Lead and coach Agile teams, fostering a culture of excellence and rapid iteration.
- Architecture and design of secure, resilient systems for UK National Security use cases.
- Implement core AI infrastructure (data pipelines, vector databases, orchestration).
- Advise UK Government stakeholders on technical strategy and solutions.
- Define and maintain technical roadmaps; support cloud transformation initiatives on AWS or Azure.
- Champion secure system design, coding standards, and automated testing.
**Required Skills**:
- 3+ years leading software engineering teams in a defence, government, or National Security environment.
- Proficiency in Python, Go, or Java (TypeScript/Node.js optional).
- Deep experience with AWS or Azure, Terraform, and Kubernetes (EKS/AKS).
- Strong SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB) background.
- Expertise in CI/CD, microservices, TDD/BDD, and DevSecOps pipelines.
- Proven knowledge of secure system design and compliance frameworks.
- Preferred: experience with AI & data tools – Vector DBs (Milvus, Weaviate, Pinecone), orchestration (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster), search engines (ElasticSearch/OpenSearch), AI frameworks (LangChain, Hugging Face), and MLOps (MLflow, Kubeflow).
**Required Education & Certifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator) are advantageous.
