About the Role Our client is seeking a highly skilled Machine Learning Researcher to join their London-based research team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on advancing state-of-the-art methods in machine learning and applying them to real-world challenges across natural language processing, computer vision, generative modelling, and reinforcement learning.
The successful candidate will play a key role in both fundamental research and the translation of theory into practical solutions, working alongside world-class researchers, engineers, and domain experts.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct original research in machine learning, developing new models, algorithms, and optimisation techniques.
Publish in leading journals and conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR).
Design, prototype, and validate research ideas through experiments, simulations, and benchmarking.
Collaborate with engineering teams to transition research into scalable, production-ready solutions.
Monitor and assess emerging developments in AI/ML to identify opportunities for innovation.
Mentor and guide junior researchers and interns.
Essential Requirements
PhD in Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
Strong theoretical foundation in linear algebra, probability, statistics, and optimisation.
Demonstrated experience in machine learning research (academic publications, open-source contributions, or equivalent).
Proficiency in at least one ML framework (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX).
Strong programming skills in Python (experience with C++ or Julia is advantageous).
Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts to varied audiences.
Desirable Skills
Experience with large-scale models, distributed training, or high-performance computing.
Familiarity with Bayesian methods, information theory, or advanced optimisation techniques.
Knowledge of applied areas such as NLP, generative AI, or reinforcement learning.
Industry research experience or collaborations with applied research teams.
