About the Role

Our client is seeking a Windows Server System Engineer to join their Digital Infrastructure team as part of a major digital transformation journey. This freelance opportunity is your chance to drive impactful change, ensuring robust, secure, and future-ready infrastructure as the organization prepares for NIS2 compliance. You’ll be at the heart of critical upgrades and migrations, shaping the digital backbone that powers tomorrow’s business.

You’ll lead the charge in upgrading Windows Server environments and migrating applications, directly supporting compliance, business continuity, and operational excellence. Your expertise will help safeguard essential systems, ensuring resilience and reliability for years to come.

What You’ll Be Doing

Executing in-place upgrades of Windows Server operating systems and migrating applications to newer server versions
Collaborating closely with infrastructure teams and stakeholders to coordinate seamless upgrades
Implementing and supporting security features aligned with NIS2 requirements
Managing servers and ensuring quality assurance across all technical implementations
Documenting technical procedures, configurations, and migration processes
Developing and refining backup procedures and disaster recovery plans
Creating and executing post-migration test plans to ensure system integrity

What We’re Looking For

Minimum 3 years of experience as a Systems Engineer in complex environments
Deep expertise in Windows Server (2012, 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025)
Hands-on experience with OS upgrades, application migrations, and post-migration testing
Solid knowledge of SQL Server and monitoring tools
Project-oriented, systematic, and proactive approach to problem-solving
Exceptional communication and documentation skills
Proven ability to develop backup and disaster recovery strategies

Technical Skills

Windows Server (expert level)
Windows Services (expert level)
MS SQL Server (intermediate level)
Monitoring tools (advanced level)
Digital project experience
Java (intermediate level)

Language Proficiency

Dutch: Native or bilingual proficiency
English: Professional working proficiency

Other Requirements

Freelance position with a fixed project duration: as soon as possible until 30/06/2026 (8 months, full time)
Hybrid work model: 3 days per week onsite in Aartselaar, flexible remote options for the remaining days
