Job Description
**Job title:** Data Scientist – Outside of IR35 **Role Summary:** Execute advanced data science solutions for a UK technology contractor working with the Home Office. Develop, validate, and deploy machine‑learning models in Python, apply Bayesian and statistical methods, and integrate models into decision‑support systems while maintaining rigorous data governance. **Expectations:** - Secure and maintain SC clearance. - Demonstrated experience in data analysis and data science, including Python and AI/ML toolkits. - Prior engagement with the UK Home Office or equivalent public‑sector client. - Ability to work remotely with occasional on‑site visits. **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Analyse structured and unstructured data to uncover insights, trends, and patterns. 2. Design, build, validate, and deploy supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement‑learning models using Python. 3. Develop statistical models, perform hypothesis testing, predictive analytics, and forecasting. 4. Collaborate with optimisation and simulation teams to embed machine‑learning insights into larger decision engines. 5. Partner with software engineers to productionise models and integrate them into operational platforms. 6. Conduct data cleaning, feature engineering, and pre‑processing to ensure model robustness. 7. Document model architecture, assumptions, data sources, and validation results. 8. Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including non‑technical audiences, to inform decision‑making. 9. Adhere to data governance, information assurance, and security protocols for sensitive projects. 10. Monitor and maintain model performance, retraining and refining as required. **Required Skills:** - Python programming (pandas, scikit‑learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch, etc.). - Proficiency in machine‑learning techniques (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement). - Experience with Bayesian modeling and statistical inference. - Strong analytical skills, hypothesis testing, forecasting, and simulation. - Data preparation, feature engineering, and model validation. - Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance standards. - Clear written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related discipline. - SC (Security Clearance) – essential. - Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Machine Learning, TensorFlow Developer) are an advantage but not mandatory.
