**Job Title:** Senior Materials Engineer
**Role Summary:**
Lead brake development laboratory operations, supervise unionized technical staff, and ensure accurate testing, data analysis, and reporting for chassis and brake systems. Serve as liaison among mechanics, management, suppliers, and academic partners while maintaining safety, quality, and schedule compliance in a 24/7 environment.
**Expectations:**
- Provide leadership and conflict‑resolution for unionized personnel.
- Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Offer flexible coverage for evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Travel minimally (primarily to CTC and Chelsey Proving Grounds) and possess a valid driver’s license.
- Be legally authorized to work in Canada and able to travel to the USA.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Operate and oversee two brake‑end dynos and one full‑size chassis dyno, including test setup and results reporting.
- Supervise and train bargaining‑unit mechanics and co‑op students.
- Collect and analyze test data using laser vibrometer, caliper test stand, and related instrumentation.
- Coordinate shipment of specimens and samples to product engineers and external suppliers.
- Lead component dissections with suppliers, manage budgets, and generate purchase orders.
- Collaborate with mechanic supervisors, union representatives, maintenance, and facilities teams.
- Provide coverage for the Electromechanical Systems Test Lab as scheduling requires.
- Maintain documentation and reporting using Teamcenter, NX, and Microsoft Office tools.
**Required Skills:**
- 3+ years automotive/testing engineering experience, with brake system design/testing preferred.
- Proven experience supervising staff in a unionized environment.
- Strong leadership, communication (written & oral), and conflict‑resolution abilities.
- Knowledge of vehicle suspension and braking systems.
- Proficiency in Siemens Teamcenter, Siemens NX (Unigraphics), and Link ProLink (asset).
- Familiarity with coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and data‑analysis software (asset).
- Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills, including Excel VBA.
- Excellent time‑management, planning, and follow‑up capabilities.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or Materials Engineering from an accredited university.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada with ability to travel to the United States.
