**Job Title:** Engineering Manager – Genetic Data
**Role Summary**
Lead and grow one or more cross‑functional engineering squads focused on processing and releasing petabyte‑scale genotyped and imputed data for a large population health cohort. Drive the design, delivery, and operation of scalable data pipelines that support scientific research worldwide.

- Own end‑to‑end delivery from product requirement through to production, ensuring high quality, secure and compliant services.
- Champion continuous improvement of engineering practices, tooling, and workflows, while ensuring robust incident response and operational reliability.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Manage daily engineering delivery in partnership with Product and cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Shape the technology roadmap for data ingestion, transformation, and release pipelines.
- Oversee technical debt, planning, forecasting and prioritization across squads.
- Coach squads on architectural decisions, consensus building and escalation procedures.
- Lead incident management, runbook creation, monitoring and post‑mortem analysis (Grafana, Prometheus, New Relic).
- Ensure compliance with information governance, data security and regulatory policy for sensitive health data.
- Drive adoption of best practices in code quality (GitHub, CI/CD, TDD, unit testing) and project management (JIRA, sprint planning).
- Design and deploy complex bioinformatics data schemas and reusable data products (VCF, pVCF, BGEN, bcftools, PLINK).
- Operate and optimize cloud‑based infrastructure (Azure, Databricks, Spark, Docker, Kubernetes).
**Required Skills**
- Strong leadership, coaching, and stakeholder‑management abilities.
- Agile engineering experience (GitHub, JIRA, CI/CD, TDD).
- Operational expertise: observability, logging, error reporting, incident management.
- Technical proficiencies: Python, Bash, Spark/Databricks, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure.
- Bioinformatics knowledge: genotyping/NGS data, VCF/pVCF/BGEN, bcftools, PLINK.
- Data engineering: large‑scale schema design, data lakes, reusable data products.
- Information governance and data security for health data.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills across technical and non‑technical audiences.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Bioinformatics or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Certifications in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and container orchestration (K8s) are advantageous but not mandatory.
