Job Description
**Job Title** Senior Liaison and Diversion Practitioner **Role Summary** Provide high‑level clinical screening and formal assessment of mental vulnerability for children and adults in contact with the criminal justice system. Act as a senior member of the multidisciplinary team, informing charging, sentencing, and diversion decisions, and facilitating timely access to health and social care services. **Expectations** - Deliver senior duty as per rota schedule. - Use CPA, MHA, MCA, Equality Act 2010 and local/national pathways to guide practice. - Maintain high competency and up‑to‑date knowledge of criminal justice requirements. **Key Responsibilities** - Conduct mental health screenings and comprehensive assessments for individuals in custody suites and courts. - Identify significant need or risk warranting intervention or diversion. - Provide concise, evidence‑based information to judges, prosecutors, and law‑enforcement officers. - Facilitate linkage to appropriate health and social care resources. - Contribute to public risk management and safety planning. - Promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma across criminal justice, health, and social care settings. - Collaborate closely with police, court staff, and multidisciplinary team members. **Required Skills** - Advanced mental health assessment and clinical decision‑making. - Proficiency with statutory guidance (CPA, MHA, MCA, Equality Act 2010). - Strong communication and case‑presentation skills. - Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary, high‑pressure environment. - Risk assessment and management expertise. - Confidentiality and ethics in handling sensitive information. **Required Education & Certifications** - Recognised qualification in mental health or related health professional field (e.g., Foundation Degree, Bachelor’s or equivalent). - Experience or training in the Criminal Procedure Act, Mental Health Act, and Equality legislation. - Ongoing professional development in risk assessment and diversion processes.
