Job Description
**Job Title:** Data Protection Manager (6‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract) **Role Summary:** Second‑line compliance professional responsible for supporting the Chief Compliance Officer in ensuring adherence to UK GDPR and EU data protection regulations. Works collaboratively with Legal, Information Security and business units to develop policies, conduct assessments, deliver training, and manage privacy‑related queries and reporting. **Expectations:** - Provide accurate, timely advisory on data protection matters. - Maintain up‑to‑date documentation and records of processing activities. - Coordinate privacy initiatives across the organization while handling confidential information with care. **Key Responsibilities:** - Monitor internal compliance with UK GDPR and EU data protection standards. - Maintain Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) and assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs). - Draft, update, and roll out data protection policies, procedures, privacy notices, contracts and templates. - Conduct data‑mapping exercises and support vendor privacy assessments. - Develop training materials and deliver awareness sessions; support onboarding privacy content. - Act as first point of contact for routine data protection queries; coordinate Subject Access Requests (SARs) and complaint handling. - Liaise with external regulators (e.g., ICO) under supervision. - Compile reports and dashboards for governance committees; track legislative changes and best‑practice updates. **Required Skills:** - Proven experience with UK GDPR and EU data protection regulations, preferably within retail banking or financial services. - Strong knowledge of privacy frameworks, policies and methodologies. - Excellent written and verbal communication; capable of producing clear reports, policies, and training content. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). - Solid understanding of IT and data management systems. - High attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive/confidential data. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Law, Information Governance, Risk Management, or related field. - Desirable: pursuit of or possession of a privacy certification such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or BCS.
