Job Description
Job Title: Independent Technical Assessor – Hardness Calibration Role Summary: Provide expert assessment of organizations performing hardness calibration, evaluating conformity with ISO standards (ISO 6506, 6507, 6508, 4545, 485, 17025) through review of documentation, procedures, and equipment. Deliver impartial findings and support accreditation decisions. Expectations: - Perform independent assessments while maintaining impartiality - Coordinate with assessors and clients on scheduling, reporting, and follow‑up - Adhere to UKAS quality, safety, and ethics standards Key Responsibilities: - Plan and conduct assessments of mechanical calibration bodies, focusing on hardness calibration - Review technical documentation, calibration procedures, and validation reports - Evaluate calibration practices for hardness testing machines, indenters, reference blocks, and measuring systems - Assess compliance with applicable ISO standards and measurement uncertainty contributions - Compile assessment findings, prepare reports, and recommend accreditation actions - Provide technical input to support accreditation decisions Required Skills: - Practical experience calibrating hardness indenters, reference blocks, and calibration equipment - Knowledge of hardness testing systems, force proving devices, indentation/laser interferometers, micrometers, and depth measurement technologies - Understanding of measurement uncertainty principles in calibration - Strong written and verbal communication - Ability to work independently, manage multiple assessments, and maintain impartiality Required Education & Certifications: - Degree, City & Guilds, HNC, ONC, or BTech in physical science, engineering, or metrology (preferred, not mandatory) - Relevant technical certifications or professional memberships are advantageous but not required
