**Job Title:**
Contract Embedded Design Engineer
**Role Summary:**
Design, develop, and integrate embedded software and hardware solutions for defence, aerospace, and security systems. Work onsite initially with a transition to hybrid model, delivering high‑integrity firmware, drivers, and FPGA implementations while supporting hardware bring‑up and debugging.
**Expectations:**
- Maintain active, transferable SC clearance (or recent lapse acceptable).
- Deliver within a 6‑month contract (potential extension) on an OUTSIDE IR35 basis.
- On‑site presence: full‑time first month, then 3 days onsite/2 days remote.
- Meet project milestones for embedded firmware, RTOS, Linux, and FPGA deliverables.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Develop and maintain embedded software in C/C++ for RTOS (FreeRTOS, VxWorks, QNX) and Embedded Linux platforms.
- Create and integrate device drivers, system builds, and SoC configurations.
- Design, code, and verify FPGA logic using VHDL/Verilog with Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.
- Conduct hardware bring‑up, board bring‑up, and low‑level debugging using appropriate tools.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure compliance with defence and aerospace standards.
- Produce technical documentation, test plans, and compliance reports.
**Required Skills:**
- 5–7+ years of embedded engineering experience.
- Proficiency in C and C++ programming.
- Strong knowledge of RTOS environments (FreeRTOS, VxWorks, QNX).
- Experience with Embedded Linux (applications, drivers, build systems, SoC integration).
- FPGA development using VHDL/Verilog; familiarity with Xilinx Vivado and Intel Quartus.
- Hardware bring‑up and debugging expertise.
- Prior work in defence, security, aviation, aerospace, or military sectors (preferred).
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Active, transferable Security Clearance (SC).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Embedded Systems Engineer, RTOS or Linux certifications) are advantageous but not mandatory.
