Our mental health teams provide a range of specialist healthcare in the community and from inpatient settings across the geographic areas of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Swindon, Bath and North East Somerset (BaNES).

We also provide a range of specialised health services that include forensic mental health and eating disorder services across a wider geographic area including support for patients in Berkshire and from Wales.

Job Description
Job Title: Forensic Inpatient Social Worker Role Summary: Provide social work services to adult and child in‑patient residents of medium‑secure, low‑secure, and pre‑discharge units. Deliver multidisciplinary care, assess social factors, manage discharge planning, and uphold safeguarding and statutory duties within a forensic mental health setting. Expectations: Act as a professional social worker on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract (maternity cover). Demonstrate resilience, flexibility (hot‑desk), and a strong commitment to recovery‑oriented care. Maintain a clear professional identity and actively contribute the social perspective in multidisciplinary teamwork. Key Responsibilities: - Conduct pre‑admission social assessments and identify barriers to recovery and discharge. - Collaborate with MDT to develop and update care plans, ensuring risk management and statutory compliance. - Liaise with Local Authorities, Integrated Care Boards, and statutory bodies (e.g., Care Act 2014, Section 117). - Participate in care coordination forums such as Mental Health Tribunals and Hospital Managers’ Hearings. - Provide safeguarding support for children and adults, addressing any safeguarding concerns. - Deliver liaison and support services to patients, families, and partner organisations during the discharge process. Required Skills: - Registered social worker with strong clinical and case management experience. - Knowledge of forensic mental health legislation and practice. - Ability to assess complex social issues in a secure environment. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams. - Problem‑solving skills for identifying and removing discharge barriers. - Capacity to work flexibly across multiple units (hot‑desk readiness). Required Education & Certifications: - Qualified Social Worker (UK). - Registration with the relevant professional body (e.g., Health and Care Professions Council). - Experience in forensic or secure mental health settings is an advantage.
