Job Description
**Job Title:** Engineering Degree Apprentice (Level 6 – Manufacturing Engineering) **Role Summary:** Four‑year apprenticeship combining on‑the‑job training at an advanced food manufacturing facility with university study at Aston University. Apprentice will develop core manufacturing engineering competencies, supporting continuous improvement, reliability, mechanical rebuild, electrical maintenance and fabrication activities while working toward a Level 6 Manufacturing Engineering degree. **Expectations:** - Demonstrate enthusiasm for a career in engineering and a strong drive for high performance. - Commit to full‑time apprenticeship schedule, including block weeks at university. - Engage proactively with mentors, engineers and cross‑functional teams. - Adhere to health, safety and environmental standards (LOLER, COSHH, PUWER). - Apply analytical thinking to solve operational problems and drive efficiency. **Key Responsibilities:** - Support the engineering team in maintaining and optimizing automated production equipment. - Participate in continuous‑improvement and reliability projects, performing root‑cause and trend analysis. - Execute mechanical rebuild tasks and assist with preventive/ corrective maintenance. - Contribute to electrical workshop activities, including troubleshooting and repairs. - Develop fabrication skills, including welding, as required for project work. - Follow safety‑focused training and procedures; conduct risk assessments where needed. - Attend scheduled university modules and apply academic learning to real‑world plant projects. - Collaborate with mentors and senior engineers to deliver project deliverables on time. **Required Skills:** - Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn rebuild and maintenance techniques. - Fundamental electrical knowledge or strong interest in developing it. - Analytical skills for root‑cause, trend and data analysis. - Problem‑solving mindset with focus on continuous improvement. - Good communication and teamwork abilities. - Commitment to health & safety practices (LOLER, COSHH, PUWER). - Basic computer literacy (MS Office, data capture tools). **Required Education & Certifications:** - Minimum 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics, or comparable qualifications. - Eligibility to undertake a Level 6 degree apprenticeship. - Must be able to attend block‑week study at Aston University (Birmingham). - No prior degree required; apprenticeship provides the Manufacturing Engineering degree (Level 6).
