**Job title:**
Artificial Intelligence Engineer – Energy Modeling & Optimization
**Role Summary:**
Design, develop, and maintain AI-driven forecasting, simulation, and optimization models that power real‑time energy decision‑making for PV, battery storage, EV charging, and flexible loads. Deliver models that integrate with platform and on‑site controllers, ensuring high performance and reproducibility in production environments.
**Expectations:**
- Deliver statistically sound forecasting of solar output, load consumption, market prices, and flexibility signals.
- Produce optimization solutions for battery operation, curtailment, peak shaving, tariff participation, and self‑consumption.
- Translate business requirements into production‑ready, data‑driven models.
- Collaborate with EMS, backend, and project teams to embed models into the platform and controllers.
- Validate model performance with real data, execute A/B tests, and iterate improvements.
- Contribute to MLOps/DataOps practices and the longer‑term AI roadmap.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Develop and refine time‑series forecasting algorithms (e.g., ARIMA, Prophet, LSTM).
- Build and tune optimization frameworks (MILP, heuristic, reinforcement learning).
- Create simulation tools and digital twins for sites with PV, storage, and EV infrastructure.
- Integrate models into APIs, containers, or edge devices for real‑time execution.
- Conduct model validation, performance monitoring, and retraining pipelines.
- Work cross‑functionally with EMS, backend, and field teams for deployment and testing.
- Document model logic, performance metrics, and deployment steps.
**Required Skills:**
- Proficiency in Python, NumPy, pandas, scikit‑learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow.
- Experience with time‑series modeling, forecasting, and statistical techniques.
- Strong background in optimization (linear, integer, MILP, non‑linear) and/or RL.
- Knowledge of control algorithms for physical energy systems.
- Familiarity with IoT/sensor data pipelines and edge deployment (APIs, containers).
- Practical MLOps/DataOps: versioning, monitoring, retraining, CI/CD.
- Git‑based workflow, Agile tools (e.g., Jira, GitLab).
- Analytical mindset, experimental approach, ability to iterate.
- Fluency in Dutch and English (written & spoken).
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, AI, Data Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
