The mid level role requires a full stack JavaScript Engineer who takes pride in producing simple, clean and maintainable code. There core stack is Node, React, TypeScript, you'll have experience using TDD and passionate about improving code quality.

Core Skills

Interview Process
Stage 1
Meet senior members of the team. A chance to hear about the plans for the business, their journey and company culture. Also an open forum for you to ask any questions about the business and tech roadmap.
Stage 2
Question based technical interview. 30 mins on general software engineering, 30 mins on architecture.
Ideally one of these stages would be face to face with the other being done remotely and can be wrapped up within a week.

The business is part of a 220m revenue group, but operates independently meaning, you get the benefits of what a large corporate can offer, minus the red tape and politics. This role will be split between two businesses within the group, one focussed on a greenfield internal SaaS project, the other in effect acting as an agency for a number of other businesses within the group globally.
The business is looking for PHP / Laravel engineers with a minimum of 1 year commercial experience who is able to work in central Manchester 3 days per week. You'll be working alongside some seriously talented senior engineers who will provide guidance and training whilst getting you up to speed on their processes and projects.
Must Haves
Ability to work end to end on complex PHP and Laravel applications.
Whilst most projects will be greenfield its important that you are passionate about improving code quality and using TDD as part of your day to day role.
Enjoys sharing knowledge and working closely with wider team
Using OOP and MVC architecture for the bulk of your career to date
Nice to Have

**ideally you'll possess a degree in Computer Science / Mathematics (or similar) from a top university and worked for an AI native or AI focussed business.
Better Placed Tech has partnered with a Microsoft backed AI business that has exited stealth mode and is building next-gen LLMs. They were founded in Silicon valley and with another funding round in 2025 they are now looking to grow out their UK based team.
The founding team is composed of industry leaders and innovators taken from some of the best-known tech businesses and educational institutions on the globe. They’re working on cutting edge technologies that are revolutionizing the AI landscape. Now is the time for an experienced Cloud Engineer to come on board and really own their cloud and infrastructure.
This role is fully remote, but it would be good if you are open to travelling to Silicon Valley 1-2 times per year for collaboration.
The Job
You’ll be a talented, motivated Cloud Engineer with several years of experience in multi-cloud environments. As a key UK hire you will lead on architecture, improvements and managing of their cloud infrastructure.
Required Skills and Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, some AI start up experience on top would be excellent
• Experience with cloud native applications and microservice architecture
• Hands-on experience with IaC (Terraform, Cloudformation) and platform control
planes (Kubernetes API and Operators)
• Experience of working in multi-cloud environments. Mainly AWS with some Azure and GCP. Knolwedge of services like EC2 and Sagemaker would be advantageous
• Hands-on experience building internal and edge network infrastructure in cloud
environments
• Hands-on experience with Container Orchestration platforms like ECS or Kubernetes, as well as service mesh (Istio, Envoy, etc.)
• Experience with edge/CDN networking products (Cloudflare, Cloudfront, Fastly, etc.)
Day to Day
• Work directly with the engineering and research leaders in the US and UK to assess
optimal cloud solutions
• Architect and manage cloud-based infrastructure on AWS, Azure, and GCP
leveraging services like EC2, S3, Sagemaker, Vertex etc
• Ensure efficient data storage, processing, and security policies
• Identify, analyse, and fix weak points in cloud infrastructure and deployment issues
• Leverage infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Ansible to automate
provisioning, configuration, and deployment of infrastructure resources
• Assist in building robust backend services and APIs using Python (Django, Flask, or FastAPI) to power infrastructure operations and integrations
• Design and implement efficient CI/CD pipelines using tools like Gitlab CI/CD to
streamline software delivery and infrastructure provisioning
• Focus on design and implementation of software defined networks, cloud landing zones
and VPCs, cloud security, application and network firewalls.
