Job Description
**Job Title** Investigator – Western RASSO (PPU) **Role Summary** Support case management and evidence collection for rape and serious sexual offence (RASSO) investigations. Work under line‑manager direction to secure and advance evidence, prepare case files, and liaise with the Crown Prosecution Service, victim support agencies, and advocates. **Expectations** - Meet full UK driving licence requirements and pass the WMP driving test if required. - Successfully complete all mandatory training: personal safety (conflict resolution), West Midlands Police IT systems, and investigation modules. - Pass recruitment vetting, counter‑terrorism clearance, and medical assessment. **Key Responsibilities** - Conduct and document witness interviews in line with Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and PACE guidelines. - Preserve, retrieve, and review CCTV and other electronic evidence. - Perform house‑to‑house enquiries and related actions. - Maintain evidence chain, ensuring integrity and preventing contamination. - Research, produce, and submit statements, reports, and intelligence logs using ICT systems. - Attend and contribute to case briefings, keeping up‑to‑date with ongoing investigations. - Complete all documentation—actions and reports—within prescribed timelines. - Support additional duties commensurate with the role and grade. **Required Skills** - Clear, concise written reporting. - Effective verbal communication and active listening. - Team collaboration and proactive problem‑solving. - Time‑management and workload prioritisation. - Competent IT skills (record keeping, databases, reporting tools). - Understanding of confidentiality, data protection (DPA 1998), and investigative legislation. - Ability to work responsibly with the public and in high‑pressure environments. - Self‑motivation and initiative. **Required Education & Certifications** - Full UK driving licence. - Successful completion of West Midlands Police training programmes, including Personal Safety and Investigation modules. - No specific degree required; however, knowledge of criminal law, criminal justice, or related field is advantageous. ---
