**Job Title**
Counsel, International Product
**Role Summary**
Provide strategic legal counsel to product, engineering, marketing, compliance, and sales teams on regulatory, consumer protection, privacy, IP, and marketing matters across multiple jurisdictions to enable Toast’s global product expansion.
**Expectations**
* 6+ years of in‑house legal experience advising product and marketing teams on cross‑jurisdictional compliance, privacy, IP, and consumer protection.
* Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance for fast‑paced, tech‑focused product development and launch.
* Proficiency in researching, interpreting, and advising on international laws without needing expertise in every country (specifically Ireland, EU, Canada, UK, Australia).
* Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
* Service‑oriented, solutions‑focused mindset capable of navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Draft, review, and negotiate product design, feature, and marketing documentation to ensure compliance worldwide.
* Advise on regulatory and privacy requirements for product roadmap and global launches.
* Evaluate and mitigate risks associated with consumer protection, IP, and marketing claims.
* Partner with product, engineering, and marketing teams throughout the product lifecycle—concept, development, testing, launch, and post‑launch.
* Provide guidance on international marketing, editorial content, and customer‑facing communications.
* Develop playbooks, templates, and best‑practice guides for Product Legal to support scaling.
* Monitor and interpret changes in applicable laws and regulations affecting the platform.
* Coordinate with external counsel and regulatory bodies when necessary.
**Required Skills**
* Strong knowledge of product, privacy, IP, marketing, and consumer protection law in multiple jurisdictions.
* Proven experience in an in‑house counsel role supporting product and marketing functions.
* Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain legal concepts succinctly.
* Collaborative teamwork and stakeholder management across cross‑functional groups.
* Ability to research, analyze, and advise on international legal frameworks.
* Proactive, solution‑oriented, customer‑service mindset.
**Required Education & Certifications**
* Qualified law degree.
* Admission in good standing as a solicitor or equivalent legal professional in Ireland, another EU member state, or Canada (including Quebec).
