**Job title:** Associate Director, Technical Architect
**Role Summary:** Lead the design, implementation, and governance of a scalable, cloud‑native data ecosystem that supports research, data science, and business decision‑making. Serve as a technical strategist, hands‑on architect, and cross‑functional partner driving data integration, quality, and automation.
**Expectations:**
- Deliver end‑to‑end data architecture solutions on large, heterogeneous datasets.
- Champion best practices in data engineering, pipeline automation, and data governance.
- Partner with research, analytics, and business units to translate data needs into robust technical solutions.
- Maintain oversight of data quality, reliability, and compliance across all pipelines.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Strategic Planning & Leadership**
- Define company‑wide data architecture strategy and roadmap.
- Evaluate emerging technologies; recommend solutions for ingestion, storage, and access.
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, designers, and analysts.
2. **Operational Delivery**
- Design and implement scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for internal and external data sources (APIs, databases, file systems).
- Build data lakes, warehouses, and analytic catalogs on cloud platforms.
- Automate data ingestion, transformation, and load processes; ensure fault tolerance and performance.
3. **Data Products & Insight Enablement**
- Develop data products, dashboards, and reports that expose actionable insights to data scientists and business stakeholders.
- Establish data modeling standards and documentation for reuse across projects.
4. **Governance & Quality Assurance**
- Implement strong data quality, validation, and monitoring frameworks.
- Enforce data governance policies, metadata management, and security controls.
5. **Stakeholder Collaboration**
- Act as a liaison between technology, research, and business units to prioritize data initiatives.
- Facilitate integration of new data sources and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
**Required Skills:**
- Extensive expertise in data engineering, cloud architecture (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and data pipeline automation.
- Proficiency with ETL/ELT frameworks (e.g., dbt, Airflow, Prefect, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Athena).
- Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and optionally Scala/Java.
- Experience with data modeling, metadata management, and governance tools.
- Knowledge of data security, compliance (GDPR, HIPAA), and documentation standards.
- Leadership and project management abilities; capability to manage cross‑functional teams and multi‑phase projects.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Relevant certifications preferred: Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), SnowPro/Redshift/BigQuery certifications, AWS/Azure/GCP data engineering credentials.
