Job title: Network SME
Role Summary:
Lead the design, implementation, maintenance, and automation of large‑scale, secure network infrastructures across production and non‑production environments. Drive segmentation, security, and reliability in complex, high‑security contexts while coordinating with business and technical teams.
Expectations:
- 10+ years of professional networking experience (financial services, tech vendors, or systems integrators).
- Demonstrated expertise in Ethernet, routing, multicast, and advanced switching technologies.
- Proficiency with Cisco (ASR, Nexus, Catalyst, IOS, IOS‑XE, NXOS, IOS‑XR) and Arista (EOS) equipment.
- Strong scripting and automation capability (Python; Ansible optional).
- Ability to secure multi‑tier network architectures and drive risk communication.
- Willingness to perform weekend and off‑hour work with compensatory time.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design, implement, and maintain secure network infrastructures for production and non‑production settings.
2. Lead network segmentation initiatives to enforce security boundaries and optimize business operations.
3. Develop and execute comprehensive deployment plans, including security, stability, and change management.
4. Build and maintain automation scripts and Ansible playbooks to streamline repetitive network tasks.
5. Conduct scheduled network changes, migrations, and upgrades during weekends or outside normal hours.
6. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to explain risks, gather requirements, and socialize solutions.
7. Utilize network analysis tools (Wireshark, Infoblox, HPNA, Splunk, SevOne) for monitoring and troubleshooting.
8. Manage project tasks using JIRA, applying Agile/Kanban methodologies.
9. Ensure adherence to security best practices: defense‑in‑depth, zero trust, least privilege, and risk controls.
Required Skills:
- Deep knowledge of Ethernet (STP, 802.1X, VPC, leaf‑spine IP fabric).
- Proficiency with IP routing protocols (RIP, OSPF, BGP, MPBGP, TCP/IP) and multicast (PIM, IGMP, MSDP).
- Hands‑on experience with Cisco and Arista switches, routers, and operating systems.
- Strong scripting and automation experience (Python, Ansible).
- Familiarity with network monitoring and security tools (Wireshark, Infoblox, HPNA, Splunk, SevOne).
- Comfortable using JIRA and Agile/Kanban project workflows.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (preferred).
- CCIE or equivalent senior networking certification strongly preferred.
- Additional certifications in network security (e.g., CCNP Security, CISSP) are a plus.
- Knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments and basic wireless/SDN/SDWAN concepts is advantageous.
