Job Description
Job title: Traffic Safety Engineering Intern Role Summary Assist in traffic safety engineering projects by developing and reviewing construction plans, analyzing crash and roadway data, contributing to GIS mapping, and preparing project documentation and presentations. Expectations - Complete assigned tasks within project timelines - Communicate findings clearly to project teams - Maintain accurate records and documentation - Demonstrate initiative and teamwork Key Responsibilities - Investigate existing highway conditions and review crash/roadway databases - Develop and review safety countermeasure and work zone construction plans - Conduct traffic safety data analysis and safety feature reviews - Map safety features and integrate GIS data using ArcGIS - Query and review traffic event video footage - Draft white papers, reports, and presentation materials - Participate in project meetings and field reviews - Collaborate with GIS team to document and maintain spatial records Required Skills - Proficiency in ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, and Oracle Spatial Database (preferred) - Familiarity or willingness to learn MicroStation, spatial data processing, thematic mapping, and database management - Strong analytical and organizational abilities - Good written and verbal communication skills - Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment Required Education & Certifications - At least two years completed in civil, construction, materials, transportation engineering, or engineering management at an accredited four‑year college or university, eligible for junior status upon return to school.
