Job Title: COBOL Developer
Role Summary:
Seasoned mainframe developer responsible for designing, coding, testing, and maintaining COBOL‑based applications, screens, and reports, ensuring system reliability, performance, and seamless integration with modern interfaces.
Expactations:
Deliver high‑quality COBOL code and supporting documentation, adhere to coding standards and development processes, resolve implementation issues promptly, support production environments, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and modify COBOL applications, screens, and reports.
- Gather, analyze, and document user requirements; produce functional specifications and technical designs.
- Design and implement small systems and subsystems on mainframe platforms.
- Write, unit test, and maintain programs in IBM COBOL, PL/I, IDMS/IMS, JCL, and CLIST.
- Promote code from development to system test, UAT, and production, preparing deployment packages and build instructions.
- Resolve production and implementation issues, providing ongoing support.
- Lead data integration and migration initiatives, including API/web service integration and stakeholder discovery sessions.
- Participate in knowledge transfer and training of team members.
Required Skills:
- 10+ years of mainframe programming/analysis experience.
- Expertise in IBM COBOL, PL/I, IDMS/IMS, JCL, CLIST, ISPF, and TSO.
- Strong analytical, functional specification, and technical design skills.
- Experience with system‑to‑system integration (APIs, web services) and data migration projects.
- Proficiency in unit testing, debugging, and documentation.
- Familiarity with deployment processes, build environments, and UAT procedures.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- IBM Certified Programmer – COBOL, PL/I, or similar mainframe certifications preferred.
