**Job Title:** Educational Assistant (Term, 0.25 FTE)
**Role Summary:**
Provide direct classroom support to students with developmental, physical, sensory, or behavioral needs under the guidance of the principal and classroom teacher. Assist with academic tasks, personal care, and implementation of individualized strategies to promote student learning and well‑being.
**Expectations:**
- Work part‑time (0.25 FTE) for the specified term dates.
- Follow school policies, safety protocols, and confidentiality standards.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, and families.
- Demonstrate initiative, reliability, and a collaborative attitude.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Support students with disabilities (e.g., developmental delays, physical impairments, deaf/blind, behavioral/social challenges).
- Assist with academic activities, classroom tasks, and individualized education plan (IEP) goals.
- Provide personal care (toileting, feeding, mobility) and monitor health needs.
- Implement communication aids (PICS, PECS, signing, Braille) and behavior‑intervention techniques (ABA).
- Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and incidents.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and school-wide initiatives.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive classroom environment.
**Required Skills:**
- Knowledge of augmentative communication systems (PICS, PECS, signing, Braille).
- Basic behavior‑management techniques; familiarity with ABA preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication; ability to build rapport with children.
- Initiative, flexibility, and teamwork orientation.
- Basic first‑aid/CPR competency; ability to follow health‑monitoring procedures.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Secondary school diploma.
- 2‑year post‑secondary diploma in a related field (e.g., DSW, CYW, SSW) **or** university degree in a child‑focused discipline.
- Minimum 2 years experience working with children who have physical, intellectual, or behavioral challenges.
- Assets: Behavior Science certificate, CPR/First Aid certification, CPI (NCI) certification, diabetic monitoring training.
