Job Description
**Job title** R&D Lawyer – NHS Trust **Role Summary** Six‑month full‑time contract supporting oncology R&D legal matters for an NHS Trust. Provide comprehensive legal advice to researchers, academic partners, pharmaceutical companies, patients and grant bodies. Ensure regulatory compliance, support funding allocation and address ad‑hoc legal queries within a highly regulated environment. **Expectations** - Deliver timely, accurate legal support across all phases of oncology R&D programs. - Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of NHS, UK, and EU regulations affecting research and drug development. - Foster collaboration with interdisciplinary stakeholders and manage legal aspects of funding and partnerships. **Key Responsibilities** 1. Draft, review and negotiate collaboration agreements, clinical trial agreements, and intellectual property contracts. 2. Advise on regulatory requirements for oncology research, including NHS governance, MHRA, EMA, and GDPR compliance. 3. Liaise with professors, researchers, pharma partners, patient groups and grant bodies on legal matters. 4. Allocate and manage research funding streams, ensuring legal alignment and optimal use of resources. 5. Respond to ad‑hoc legal queries from the research team and external partners. 6. Collaborate with a small R&D legal team to coordinate compliance activities and reporting. **Required Skills** - Deep understanding of research and development law within the life‑sciences sector. - Proficiency in drafting and negotiating complex research agreements. - Knowledge of NHS policies, UK and EU regulatory frameworks (MHRA, EMA, GDPR). - Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills. - Ability to work independently in a small, multidisciplinary team. - Familiarity with emerging technologies in oncology (e.g., AI applications). **Required Education & Certifications** - Law degree (LLB/BA/LLM) and qualification as a solicitor or barrister (UK). - Admission to the Solicitors Regulation Authority or equivalent regulatory body. - Experience in R&D legal practice within pharma, biotechnology or regulated life‑science environment preferred.
