Job Description
**Job Title** Year Out Placement – Building Surveying **Role Summary** A 12‑month hands‑on placement for students completing an RICS‑accredited Building Surveying degree (or related discipline). Trainees work with experienced surveyors across the full building lifecycle, gaining exposure to design, construction, maintenance and refurbishment projects. **Expectations** - Complete the placement with a focus on learning and professional development. - Actively participate in site visits, meetings, and project delivery tasks. - Demonstrate a proactive, analytical mindset and strong communication skills. **Key Responsibilities** - Conduct building condition surveys and site inspections; record observations and photograph key information. - Prepare schedules of condition, defect reports and survey documentation. - Support project delivery: monitor works on site, assist with contract administration, and contribute to specifications and tender documents. - Research building materials, construction methods and sustainability best practices. - Maintain accurate project records and manage data using digital tools. - Attend internal meetings and site visits with senior team members to observe professional practice. **Required Skills** - Excellent written and verbal communication. - Teamwork and collaboration. - Analytical thinking and problem‑solving. - Proactive, self‑motivated attitude. - Basic familiarity with survey documentation and project management tools. **Required Education & Certifications** - Current enrolment in an RICS‑accredited Building Surveying degree (or equivalent related discipline). - Willingness to pursue professional qualifications (e.g., APC) during or after the placement.
