Job Description

**Job Title:** Principal Data Engineer – Data Governance & Data Quality **Role Summary:** Leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide data governance and data quality frameworks. Acts as the subject‑matter expert for metadata, data catalog, and data quality tools, collaborating with business and technical teams to ensure high‑quality, governed data across the organization. **Expectations:** - Deliver scalable data governance and quality solutions that meet business needs. - Drive adoption of best practices and emerging standards in data governance, metadata, and data quality. - Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and translate technical concepts into business value. - Optimize tool usage and cloud costs while maintaining robust data controls. **Key Responsibilities:** - Define and implement data quality rules, alerts, and issue‑management processes. - Provide expert guidance on data catalog and governance tool configuration (e.g., DQLabs, Collibra, Atlan). - Collaborate with data architects and modelers to align governance with data architecture. - Assess and recommend new governance/metadata technologies in partnership with business and IT. - Develop and maintain documentation of data lineage, business and technical data flows. - Write and execute SQL queries (Snowflake preferred) for data analysis and quality issue resolution. - Partner with DataOps to monitor and control cloud (Azure or equivalent) costs for data tools. - Lead continuous‑improvement initiatives, automation, and adoption of AI‑based governance capabilities. - Serve as a liaison between technical teams and functional owners, ensuring clear communication and stakeholder alignment. **Required Skills:** - ≥10 years experience in data governance, data quality, or related data engineering roles. - Strong hands‑on SQL proficiency; Snowflake experience highly preferred. - Expertise with data governance/quality/metadata tools (e.g., DQLabs, Collibra, Atlan, Alation, Data.world). - Deep knowledge of data governance and data quality processes, including CDEs, rule creation, and monitoring. - Ability to design and operationalize data quality frameworks, roles, and permissions. - Excellent communication and leadership skills; capable of presenting to senior audiences. - Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure) and cost‑management for data services. - Agile mindset with a focus on automation and continuous improvement. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field. - Preferred: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. - Preferred certifications: DAMA CDMP, DQMP, or equivalent data governance/quality certifications.
