Job Title: Mechanical Prototype Engineer
Role Summary: Conduct independent research, feasibility studies, and design of trial prototypes. Manage project workflows, risk assessments, safety analyses, procurement, testing, data analysis, and technical documentation. Interface with cross‑functional teams, provide technical expertise, drive innovation, and maintain cost and schedule compliance.
Expectations: Deliver end‑to‑end prototype projects—from concept through testing—owning program planning, tool selection, safety procedures, and reporting. Lead technical reviews, justify design decisions, assemble prototypes, collaborate on instrumented tests, analyze results, archive data, and sustain technical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Define work programs, select methods and resources.
- Prepare Workplace Safety Analyses for prototype testing.
- Develop operating procedures and test protocols for prototypes.
- Source components to meet test requirements.
- Track and report project progress; organize technical reviews.
- Lead R&D projects and justify design choices via comparative analysis.
- Assemble prototype test assemblies (required authorization).
- Conduct instrumented tests in partnership with laboratory.
- Analyze test data and produce findings.
- Compile technical dossiers for R&D projects.
- Archive technical data and maintain records.
- Ensure projects stay within budget and schedule.
- Coordinate with R&D, Quality, Methods, Production, Operations, and Safety.
- Provide specialty technical expertise for development and mass‑production projects.
- Perform technology watch on pyrotechnic equipment and fabrication techniques.
- Propose innovation and cost‑saving initiatives; contribute to knowledge capitalisation and external communication.
Required Skills
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MS Project.
- CAD experience, preferably Creo.
- Knowledge of material processing.
- Instrumentation and physical measurement skills.
- Strong analytical, decision‑making, and documentation abilities.
- Project management and safety‑risk assessment expertise.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and technical presentation skills.
Required Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or Energy Engineering from a recognised engineering school (e.g., ENSTA, ENSAM).
- 2–5 years of experience in a similar prototype engineering or R&D role.
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
