Job Description

Job title: Informatics Specialist Role Summary: Backend engineer focused on data integration and pipeline development for biomedical research. Responsible for designing APIs, optimizing databases, and connecting laboratory information systems (LIMS) and ELN platforms to central data repositories. Works with scientists to translate research requirements into scalable, secure software solutions. Expectations: Produce production‑grade backend services, deliver reliable data pipelines, and maintain high system performance. Collaborate cross‑functionally with experimental teams and technical squads. Demonstrate strong problem‑solving skills in a fast‑moving drug discovery environment. Key Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services using Python or Java. - Model, create, and optimize relational database schemas (PostgreSQL / MySQL). - Build and orchestrate data pipelines linking ELN, LIMS, and research databases. - Tune and benchmark database performance and system throughput. - Integrate internal platforms with external scientific tools and third‑party APIs. - Apply secure coding practices and implement API authentication/authorization. - Use Docker and CI/CD workflows to automate build, test, and deployment pipelines. - Collaborate with scientists to gather requirements, prototype solutions, and provide technical guidance. Required Skills: - 3+ years of backend development experience in production environments (Python, Java). - Proficient with ORM frameworks (SQLAlchemy, Hibernate) and complex data modeling. - Deep understanding of relational databases – schema design, query optimization, indexing. - Experience containerizing applications with Docker and managing CI/CD pipelines. - Knowledge of API security best‑practices (OAuth, JWT, rate limiting). - Familiarity with ELN, LIMS, or similar laboratory platforms preferred. - Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Informatics, or related field. - Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer, Docker Certified Associate) are a plus.
