Job Description

Job Title: Sr. Software Engineer, Backend Role Summary: Lead design and development of backend systems for Calm's mental health apps, ensuring scalability, security, and performance. Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver high-quality features aligned with user needs. Expectations: Proven expertise in backend engineering with 5+ years’ experience. Demonstrated ability to deliver complex features, collaborate in agile environments, mentor teams, and integrate AI-assisted development tools. Key Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and maintain reliable, scalable backend systems. - Lead implementation of complex backend features in fast-paced, cross-functional teams. - Author technical specifications, ensure robust testing, and implement system monitoring. - Collaborate with stakeholders on requirements and project scope. - Mentor junior engineers and conduct code reviews focused on quality and clarity. - Stay current on backend technologies and advocate for innovative solutions. Required Skills: - Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js. - Experience with REST APIs, microservices architecture, relational SQL databases. - Familiarity with GoLang, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS/GCP/GKE. - Strong CI/CD pipeline management, unit/integration testing, and DevOps collaboration. - Agile methodology expertise and cross-team communication skills. Required Education & Certifications: Minimum of 5 years of relevant backend software engineering experience. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred but not required.
