Job Description: Job title: Database Developer Role Summary: Design, develop, and optimize high‑performance, highly available database solutions for complex, data‑intensive OLTP environments. Lead technical initiatives, provide mentorship, and collaborate with application teams to ensure scalable database architectures. Expectations: Operate autonomously and drive high‑impact projects. Deliver continuous improvements in performance, reliability, and maintainability of database systems. Provide leadership in technical decision‑making and documentation. Key Responsibilities: - Enhance and tune existing databases for peak performance, addressing bottlenecks in high‑volume OLTP workloads. - Analyze execution plans, index usage, and join techniques to optimize SQL code. - Monitor database performance, implement effective automation, and ensure robust testing. - Design and implement highly available database architectures using proven frameworks. - Establish and enforce database standards, best practices, and governance. - Mentor and train colleagues on database design, performance tuning, and tooling. - Collaborate with application developers, product managers, and stakeholders to refine data models and query logic. - Participate in code management via GitHub, including peer reviews, branching, and conflict resolution. - Conduct technology evaluations, recommending and implementing improvements where appropriate. Required Skills: - 5+ years of experience building and supporting Azure SQL Databases; strong familiarity with PostgreSQL. - Advanced SQL programming, query tuning, indexing, and performance troubleshooting. - Proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash) and command‑line utilities. - Experience with Git version control, peer reviews, and feature branching. - Proven technical leadership, project ownership, and mentoring capabilities. - Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills in English. - Ability to independently prioritize work and adapt to changing requirements. Preferred Skills: - Experience with database migration, SSIS/ADF. - Azure cloud expertise. - Exposure to NoSQL (MongoDB) and distributed streaming (Kafka). - Broad database administration knowledge across cloud and on‑prem solutions.
