Job title: Year in Industry – Engineering Placement 2026
Role Summary:
A 12‑month engineering placement for university students, working in Future Technology and Mechanical Engineering teams. Focus on high‑temperature heat‑pump development and advanced thermal systems, including experimental testing, performance data analysis, system modelling, design, specification, and technical documentation. Exposure to sustainability, decarbonisation projects, stakeholder collaboration, and project management.
Expectations:
- Current enrolment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a required work placement.
- Full‑time commitment for 12 months (July 2026–July 2027).
- Right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
- Curiosity, analytical mindset, and drive to influence real‑world solutions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across cross‑functional teams.
- Willingness to take on meaningful tasks, learn rapidly, and contribute to project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in design and execution of experimental tests for high‑temperature heat pumps and thermal systems.
- Collect, process, and analyse performance data to refine system models.
- Support system design activities and component specification.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation and reports.
- Liaise with stakeholders (engineering, operations, sustainability) to ensure project alignment.
- Participate in project management processes, including planning, monitoring, and reporting.
- Contribute to sustainability initiatives and decarbonisation efforts.
- Attend training, workshops, and cross‑team meetings.
Required Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, MATLAB, Python or equivalent).
- Basic knowledge of thermal systems, heat transfer, and mechanical engineering principles.
- Effective technical communication and documentation skills.
- Teamwork, stakeholder engagement, and collaborative mindset.
- Familiarity with project management fundamentals.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, Thermodynamics, or a related engineering discipline.
- Completed coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, mechanical design, and data analysis.
- No mandatory certifications required; willingness to complete any necessary training.
