Job Description
Job title: Senior Legal Counsel Role Summary: Provides strategic legal and regulatory guidance within a multinational firm, advising senior lawyers and business groups on complex regulatory matters, mentoring colleagues, and ensuring compliance is embedded across operations. Expectations: Deliver accurate, timely regulatory advice; mentor on conflicts and confidentiality; collaborate on firm-wide compliance initiatives; maintain global licenses; design and deliver training; support audit and data protection programs; represent the firm at industry events; stay current on evolving regulations. Key Responsibilities: • Advise on SRA regulation, data protection, AML, sanctions, and other compliance obligations. • Mentor colleagues on conflicts of interest and confidentiality matters. • Lead and participate in firm-wide compliance projects with business support teams. • Coordinate with overseas offices to navigate cross-border regulatory requirements and maintain global licences. • Design and deliver regulatory training (in‑person and online) to keep teams compliant. • Counsel on commercial tenders, client engagement terms, and client complaints. • Support internal audit functions and shape the data protection programme. • Represent the firm at events and monitor regulatory developments. Required Skills: • In‑depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks (SRA, GDPR, AML, sanctions). • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to advise senior lawyers. • Commercial mindset with practical solution‑oriented approach. • Demonstrated mentoring and training delivery experience. • Cross‑border regulatory facilitation and global licence management. • Advanced IT skills for online training and compliance tools. • Detail‑oriented, analytical, and proactive in staying abreast of regulatory changes. Required Education & Certifications: • Qualified lawyer (called to the bar). • Significant regulatory experience in in‑house, private practice, or regulatory authority settings.
