**Job title**
Field Technician – Central Office Telecommunications
**Role Summary**
Level 2 Telecommunications Technician performing installation, upgrade, de‑installation, and maintenance of telecom equipment and power systems at central office sites. Works across the Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Florida Gulf Coast service areas, traveling frequently to customer locations. Supports network operations by ensuring equipment, power, and cabling meet performance and safety standards.
**Expectations**
- 6‑9 month contract with potential extension or conversion.
- 2–4 years of field experience in central office or carrier environments.
- Ability to travel and work irregular hours, including overtime and weekend support as required.
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to engineering and safety standards.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Install, de‑install, upgrade, and replace telecommunications equipment (switches, routers, transport gear, legacy systems).
- Work with AC/DC power systems: –48 V DC, AC power, battery plants, rectifiers, distribution bays, fuse panels, grounding, and power cabling.
- Conduct power cutovers, equipment turn‑ups, and migrations following engineering documents and industry standards.
- Perform site surveys, inventory validation, and documentation of all work.
- Troubleshoot equipment, power, circuit, and connectivity issues.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, power schematics, and installation manuals.
- Adhere to safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and company policies.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and NOC teams to meet schedules.
- Maintain daily progress reports, test results, and site records.
**Required Skills**
- Proficient with telecom test equipment (OTDR, T‑BERD, multimeter, power tester).
- Strong knowledge of –48 V DC power systems, battery strings, AC power, and grounding.
- Experience with fiber, coax, and copper cabling (routing, splicing coordination, cable management).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lb and work in confined or equipment‑dense spaces.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Strong communication, documentation, and troubleshooting abilities.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certifying knowledge in DC power, OSHA 10/30, or manufacturer‑specific training is preferable.
