Senior Policy Advisor “Economic and Fiscal Policies”
Job Description

SMEunited is looking for a Senior Policy Advisor in Economic and Fiscal Policies. Your key responsibilities will consist of developing and managing, in cooperation with our members, the representation of SMEs at European level, towards European institutions, stakeholders and public opinion. You will deal with macro-economic policy, including monetary policy, fiscal policy and wage developments. Furthermore, all issues related to economic growth and structural changes, financing of SMEs, research and innovation and taxation.

Job description
The Senior Policy Advisor will be responsible for:
• Developing and implementing advocacy activities and strategy,
• Cooperating with member organisations and enhancing their capacity in EU policy-making,
• Building and maintaining a strong network with representatives from EU institutions and stakeholders and setting up alliances where appropriate,
• Developing and implementing projects which can contribute to develop knowhow and best practices,
• Contributing to ensure the impact of the SMEunited positions and enhancing the visibility and notoriety of SME views,
• Contributing to the strategy and organisational development of SMEunited, amongst others by coaching team members, proposing ideas on the improvement of products and services, etc.

Skills & competences
For this position, the candidate should have at least 7 years’ experience in EU policy-making and master the following skills:
• knowhow of SME characteristics
• knowledge of macro-economic policy, including monetary policy and fiscal policy, SME finance, research and innovation, taxation, etc.
• good understanding of the functioning of the EU policy process
• strong networking skills
• project management skills
• decision-making with conceptual, creative and analytical thinking
• excellent interpersonal skills, be a team player who can also work independently
• effective verbal and written communication skills
• fluent in English – other languages are an asset
• client and service-oriented
• flexibility
• willingness to travel
• academic level or equivalent based on experience

Conditions
The vacancy is a full-time position (38 hours per week) with a permanent contract under Belgian law. The position is based in Brussels. Applicants must have the right to work in Belgium.
