Job Description
Job Title: Assistant Preconstruction Manager – Structural Role Summary: Deliver preconstruction leadership for structural projects across Canada, providing value‑based design, constructability analysis, and real‑time recommendations to optimize cost, schedule, quality, and compliance. Expectations: - Lead preconstruction activities across IPD, design‑build, and stipulated price delivery. - Provide continuous feedback during design, permitting, and construction phases. - Maintain project budgets, quality standards, and regulatory compliance. - Mentor staff and contribute to business development. Key Responsibilities: - Manage preconstruction processes, including design meetings with owners, architects, and engineers. - Review and comment on 2D/3D drawings and specifications for constructability, value engineering, and sequencing. - Prepare Construction Management Plans (CMP) for permitting, addressing logistics, utilities, traffic, health & safety, and adjacent property impacts. - Lead design‑assist teams for building renovations and equipment upgrades in occupied facilities. - Provide construction management support: trade package development, Procore implementation, and procedure development. - Assist industrial clients with equipment integration, coordinating designers, code consultants, and trade contractors. - Develop and implement procurement procedures for goods, services, and works packages on publicly funded projects. - Conduct site visits during preconstruction and construction, preparing required documentation. - Participate in business development, proposals, and client engagement. - Maintain internal financial control, ensuring deliverables stay within budget. - Prepare and maintain project plans, schedules, and compliance with internal QMS. - Train and mentor staff across assigned projects. - Utilize RSMeans Online, Procore, CMBuilder, SketchUp, HoloBuilder, Drones, BuildingConnected, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and related tools. Required Skills: - Strong ability to read and interpret design drawings and details. - In‑depth knowledge of commercial construction trades and construction methodology. - Familiarity with national and local building codes, health & safety regulations, and permitting requirements. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs). - Experience with project management tools (MS Project, Gantt charts). - Skilled in construction management platforms (Procore, CMBuilder, Autodesk Construction Cloud). - Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving abilities. Required Education & Certifications: - Diploma or degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field. - 2–4 years progressive experience in design, cost estimating, and/or construction (Assistant Preconstruction Manager). - 4–8 years experience qualifies for Preconstruction Manager. - Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) license preferred. - PMP certification preferred or willingness to obtain within one year. - Knowledge of government regulations governing the construction industry.
