Job Description
Job Title: Summer Intern, Actuarial Role Summary: 10‑week hybrid internship focused on evaluating the profitability of reinsurance proposals. Interns will support the actuarial team by building and refining pricing models, creating dashboards, and collaborating with underwriting staff to integrate actuarial analysis into commercial decisions. Expactations: 4 days on‑site per week, 1 remote day; completion of assigned projects and presentations; active participation in team meetings and knowledge‑sharing sessions. Key Responsibilities: • Assist in developing and enhancing pricing models for property, casualty, and specialty reinsurance. • Design and maintain data visualizations and dashboards (Tableau, Excel) to communicate key metrics to internal stakeholders and clients. • Gather, clean, and analyze reinsurance data using SQL, VBA, and/or programming languages (R, Python). • Collaborate with underwriting and business units to assess proposal profitability and risk. • Document actuarial assumptions, processes, and model validation procedures. • Support ad‑hoc actuarial analyses and reporting as needed. Required Skills: • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in Excel. • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex concepts to non‑technical audiences. • Eagerness to learn and adapt to evolving actuarial tools and techniques. • Familiarity with VBA, Tableau, SQL, R, or Python is a plus. Required Education & Certifications: • Current enrollment in an actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, actuarial studies, or related degree program. • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. • Demonstrated interest in actuarial science through participation in or preparation for Casualty Actuarial Society examinations is preferred.
