Job Description
Job title: Structural Engineering Internship Role Summary: Assist structural and bridge design teams in analysis, design calculations, load rating, and inspection documentation under guidance of senior engineers, gaining hands‑on experience with industry standards and project execution. Expectations: - Contribute to conventional and complex bridge and structural projects, supporting design, analysis, and field activities. - Learn and apply AASHTO, IDOT, and ISTHA design codes and construction standards. - Collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical findings clearly. Key Responsibilities: - Perform structural analysis and design calculations for bridges and related structures. - Assist in load rating studies and develop inspection reports. - Support drafting and model development using CAD/structural software. - Participate in field inspections, data collection, and quality control activities. - Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and client use. - Collaborate with project engineers and managers to meet project milestones. Required Skills: - Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. - Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, or equivalent). - Experience with drafting and BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit). - Knowledge of structural design codes and standards. - Effective written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Required Education & Certifications: - Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s program in Civil Engineering (ABET‑accredited) with emphasis on structural engineering; Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with structural focus preferred (or expected within 2 years). - Coursework in structural analysis, design of steel and concrete, bridge engineering, and structural mechanics. - No professional license required; certification (e.g., P.E.) desirable but not mandatory.
