Job Description
**Job title** Software Engineer III (Remote – Canada) **Role Summary** Lead the design, development, and maintenance of production‑ready Ruby on Rails web applications and APIs. Work closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to deliver high‑performance, scalable, and secure solutions that solve customer problems and drive business growth. **Expectations** - Minimum 3 years of experience building production web applications. - Proficiency in Ruby on Rails and experience writing clean, testable, and well‑architected code. - Strong understanding of SQL, query optimization, and PostgreSQL indexing. - Ability to write performant, scalable, and secure software. - Attention to detail, customer‑focused mindset, and willingness to continuously learn and improve. - Experience in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback. **Key Responsibilities** - Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into elegant technical solutions. - Design, develop, test, and deploy Ruby on Rails backend and API components. - Write efficient SQL queries, design indexes, and optimize database performance. - Implement background jobs with Sidekiq and manage caching with Redis. - Maintain and improve Kubernetes‑based deployment infrastructure. - Participate in code reviews and contribute to establishing best practices. - Write unit, integration, and functional tests to ensure code quality and reliability. - Troubleshoot production issues and perform root‑cause analysis. - Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge on architecture, performance, and security. **Required Skills** - Ruby on Rails (backend & API) – proven production experience. - Ruby, StimulusJS (frontend). - PostgreSQL – querying, indexing, performance tuning. - Redis and Sidekiq for caching and background processing. - Kubernetes / container orchestration. - RESTful API design. - Automated testing frameworks (e.g., RSpec, Capybara). - Version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines. - Security best practices for web applications. - Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. - Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. - Self‑motivated and eager to learn new technologies. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience). - No mandatory certifications required, though knowledge of relevant frameworks or tools is a plus.
