Job Description
**Job Title** Scientist I – Wet Chemistry Laboratory **Role Summary** Conduct, oversee, and document chemical analyses of environmental samples (air, water, soil) in a laboratory setting. Maintain instrumentation, ensure compliance with standard chemistry/biochemistry protocols, and support laboratory operations. **Expectations** • Perform routine and specialized analytical tests with accuracy and precision. • Adhere to safety protocols, including PPE use and chemical handling. • Maintain meticulous records and laboratory documentation. • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment. • Collaborate with laboratory team to meet testing schedules and quality standards. **Key Responsibilities** - Prepare and analyze environmental samples (air, water, soil) using standard wet chemistry techniques. - Calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory instruments (e.g., spectrophotometers, titrators, chromatographs). - Document all analytical procedures, results, and quality control data in lab notebooks and electronic systems. - Follow standard operating procedures, quality assurance, and quality control protocols. - Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. - Assist in the preparation of analytical reports and summaries for internal and external stakeholders. **Required Skills** - Applied knowledge of analytical chemistry methods (e.g., titration, spectroscopy, chromatography). - Proficiency in laboratory documentation and record-keeping. - Ability to operate and calibrate laboratory instruments. - Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving ability. - Effective communication skills for reporting results. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Physical stamina for standing, lifting up to 20 lb occasionally, handling chemicals, and operating in a lab environment. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related field (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience). - No additional certifications required, though laboratory safety training is preferred.
