Job Title: Manager, Data Engineering
Role Summary
Lead and grow a high‑performing data engineering team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the distributed systems that produce national healthcare provider rankings. Deliver scalable, efficient, and secure Big Data solutions while aligning engineering initiatives with company strategy.

- Own technical vision and roadmap for core ranking systems.
- Deliver new features and enhancements on time while upholding code quality and performance standards.
- Balance development of new capabilities with scaling and optimization of existing systems.
- Champion data privacy, security, and compliance (e.g., HIPAA).
- Mentor engineers of all levels, foster collaboration, and support talent development.
- Operate effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and translate complex business requirements into actionable technical plans.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide technical leadership for design, architecture, and implementation of distributed batch and streaming data pipelines.
2. Own the core ranking engine, ensuring reliability, accuracy, and performance at scale.
3. Monitor system health, identify bottlenecks, and implement mitigation strategies.
4. Manage cross‑functional collaboration with product, data science, and operations to prioritize features and trade‑offs.
5. Enforce data governance, security controls, and privacy best practices across all data workflows.
6. Mentor and grow engineering staff, conduct regular code reviews, and facilitate knowledge sharing.
7. Define and track engineering metrics, maintain documentation, and present progress to senior leadership.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of hands‑on engineering in Big Data and distributed systems.
- 1+ year of engineering team leadership with a record of building high‑performing teams.
- Deep experience with batch processing frameworks (Hadoop, Spark, EMR).
- Proficiency in Big Data tooling: Argo, Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, Metaflow, dbt, Soda, etc.
- Strong ownership mindset, proactive problem solving, and ability to craft scalable technical roadmaps.
- Solid understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance (HIPAA, EDI).
- Comfortable operating in a startup‑style, rapid‑iteration environment.
Required Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Cloudera Certified Professional – Big Data Engineer, AWS Certified Big Data – Specialty, or similar) preferred but not mandatory.
