Job Description
**Job Title:** IT Assistant / 1st Line IT Support Technician **Role Summary:** Provide first‑line technical support for laboratory information systems, LIMS, and associated hardware/software across multiple pathology sites. Analyse, prioritize, and resolve user‑reported IT issues, ensure timely adherence to service level agreements, and deliver user guidance and training to maintain reliable healthcare operations. **Expectations:** - Systematically log and prioritize all IT incidents. - Resolve issues within agreed timeframes or escalate to 2nd‑line specialists. - Offer clear, non‑technical explanations and training to end‑users. - Travel between hub and satellite labs as required. - Operate effectively under pressure while maintaining a professional, courteous demeanor. **Key Responsibilities:** - First‑line support for Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and all pathology IT hardware/software. - Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems or escalate appropriately. - Record incidents, actions taken, and resolutions in the service desk system. - Provide user training and documentation on system use and best practices. - Collaborate with the Pathology IT team to ensure consistent, high‑quality service delivery. - Participate in on‑call or flexible work schedules to meet service demands. - Assist with equipment handling, setup, and relocation (e.g., printers, monitors). **Required Skills:** - Strong analytical and logical problem‑solving abilities. - Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical staff. - Customer‑service orientation with proven interpersonal skills. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general PC hardware/software troubleshooting. - Ability to prioritize conflicting tasks and manage deadlines. - Good physical fitness for equipment handling. - Self‑motivated, initiative‑driven, and effective team collaborator. - Tact, diplomacy, and empathy in user interactions. **Required Education & Certifications:** - GCSE Mathematics and English (minimum grade 5 / C). - Level 2 IT qualification (e.g., ECDL) or equivalent. - Evidence of further education (e.g., A‑levels, vocational qualifications, or relevant diplomas).
