About Everfield
Everfield buys, builds, and grows European vertical market and specialist software companies, providing them with the tools they need to move to the next level. Our mission is to foster ambition, fuel growth, and unlock opportunities for Europe’s software ecosystem.
Companies in the Everfield ecosystem follow a decentralised model, maintaining their team, brand, and offices, while focusing on what they do best - building products and supporting customers. Everfield provides support in talent acquisition, HR, and access to a team of experts in building and growing European B2B SaaS companies who consult on financial and operational topics. Founded in 2022, Everfield has an ecosystem presence in 7 countries, and growing.
Everfield Payments are an ambitious and innovative embedded payments business working inside a company that buys, builds, and grows European vertical market and specialist software companies, providing them with the tools they need to move to the next level. Our intention is to transform the way Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) integrate payment acceptance into their solutions. With a small but rapidly growing team, we are focused on delivering exceptional, scalable payment solutions tailored to the needs of the European market.
The Role
As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), you will be instrumental in shaping the technical vision and strategy of our business. Initially building and leading a small team of 3 people, you will spearhead recruitment, establish our technical foundations, and guide the evolution of our technology stack. Over the next 18 months, you will grow the team to 10 members and foster a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.
What You Will Do
Team Recruitment and Leadership
Build a talented and cohesive technical team, with a focus on attracting and retaining top-tier talent.
Foster a strong engineering culture emphasising collaboration, innovation, and quality.
Mentor and support team members in their professional development.
Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders including internal treasury and finance teams, ISV leadership and the professional services organisations of critical suppliers.
Technical Strategy and Tooling
Define and implement the technical roadmap
Establish our scalable technical tooling environment, processes, and workflows.
Ensure robust development practices, including code quality, CI/CD pipelines, and testing frameworks.
Payment Integrations and Architecture
Design and oversee the development of integrations with our key strategic European payment provider, enabling seamless reconciliation and billing for embedded services via our portfolio ISVs
Develop model architectures and best practices for ISVs to integrate their solutions with retail environments, such as points of sale, inventory systems, and payment terminals.
Collaborate with external partners, including providers such as Adyen or Stripe to embed their payment capability with the customer environments of the ISVs.
Technical Execution
Lead the delivery of key projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and to an appropriate quality. Demonstrate the ability to flex the priority of those three elements.
Balance hands-on development and leadership as needed during the early stages of team growth.
Ensure data security and integrity are foundational aspects of the solution
Stay ahead of industry trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies in the payment space.
Key Requirements
What we are looking for:
Experience: Demonstrable track record in technology leadership roles within the European payment acceptance industry.
Integration Expertise: Proven experience working with APIs of leading payment providers such as Adyen, Stripe, or similar platforms.
Retail Knowledge: Familiarity with ePOS systems and retail integration, including inventory systems and payments terminals.
Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in modern software development, system architecture, and engineering management.
Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities.
Desirable Experience
Exposure to alternative payment methods such as Girobank or equivalent localised payment solutions in Europe.
Experience in scaling technical teams within a fast-paced startup environment.
Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance requirements including PCI DSS v4.0
