Job Description
**Job Title:** Sr. Controls and Automation Engineer **Role Summary:** Lead the modernization of legacy control systems across North American manufacturing sites, migrating from legacy platforms (e.g., Allen Bradley) to modern technologies such as Rockwell FactoryTalk and Inductive Ignition. Design, integrate, and deploy PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, safety PLCs, and industrial networking solutions. Provide strategic controls support, ensuring system uptime and operational excellence while managing multi‑site projects, documentation, and compliance with industry standards. **Expectations:** - Drive multi‑site controls system upgrades and equipment automation. - Maintain plant control reliability and performance across 16 sites. - Deliver projects on schedule and within capital allocation limits. - Exhibit strategic thinking, project management, and collaborative skills with integrators, contractors, and cross‑functional teams. **Key Responsibilities:** - Design, test, implement, and validate controls upgrades, panel retrofits, and network architecture enhancements. - Create detailed upgrade plans, build documentation, and maintain change logs per corporate standards. - Develop new process control systems and revise existing ones, performing cost/benefit analyses. - Provide troubleshooting and support to plant engineers and maintenance teams. - Lead stage‑gate reviews, vendor documentation, BOM accuracy checks, and capital planning. - Establish predictive/preventive maintenance protocols and upskill local technicians. - Stay current on emerging industrial controls technology and evaluate pilot solutions. - Ensure compliance with UL508a, NEC, and NFPA 70E in all design and documentation. **Required Skills:** - Expertise in Rockwell Automation (FactoryTalk, RSView32) and Inductive Ignition platforms. - Proficient in PLC logic development, HMI design, servo motion control, safety PLCs. - Strong knowledge of industrial Ethernet, remote I/O systems, and field instrumentation calibration. - Hands‑on commissioning and start‑up experience for large‑scale upgrades (> $10M). - Project management, documentation, and specification review capabilities. - Ability to work effectively with integrators, contractors, and cross‑functional teams. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (or equivalent). - P.Eng. or CET designation preferred. - Minimum 5 years of industrial automation experience with a focus on control system migration, design, integration, and plant operations support.
