Job Description
Job Title: Data Science Intern Role Summary: Interns will join the Data Science team to build and evaluate large‑scale machine learning models that support core business areas such as insurance, engineering, or technology solutions. Work will involve processing big data, developing predictive models, and collaborating with cross‑functional stakeholders to drive product and process optimization. Expectations: - Availability to start in May 2026. - 3–6 month internship with a hybrid schedule (on‑site at Hartford, CT, and remote). - Deliver timely code, documentation, and analysis reports. Key Responsibilities: - Clean, transform, and analyze large datasets to identify business opportunities. - Design, prototype, and validate machine learning models for production use. - Write well‑documented, production‑ready code in Python, R, or SQL. - Implement version control, CI/CD practices, and containerization (Docker). - Collaborate with team members on data pipelines, model deployment, and performance monitoring. - Experiment with distributed computing (Spark) and cloud platforms (Azure). - Explore and prototype generative AI solutions (LLMs) where applicable. - Communicate findings and recommendations to technical and non‑technical audiences. Required Skills: - Proficient programming in Python, R, and SQL. - Strong foundation in statistical methods and machine learning. - Analytical and problem‑solving mindset. - Basic software engineering skills: Git, API design, Docker, DevOps best practices. - Experience with Spark or other distributed computing frameworks (plus). - Familiarity with Azure cloud services (plus). - Knowledge of deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) (plus). - Experience developing or experimenting with generative AI models (plus). Required Education & Certifications: - Current MS or PhD student in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related applied science with heavy quantitative emphasis. - Exceptional undergraduate students with comparable skills may also apply.
