Job Description
**Job Title:** Clinical Nurse Specialist – Palliative Care **Role Summary:** Provide expert, evidence‑based nursing care and education in palliative and end‑of‑life settings across a 24/7 service. Lead symptom management, advance care planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve quality of life for patients and families. **Expectations:** - Deliver specialist clinical advice in line with NICE and national guidance. - Educate staff on palliative care fundamentals and advanced communication skills. - Participate in audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives. - Commit to a 7‑day rota covering 09:00‑17:00 shifts (variable hours: 30–37.5 h). **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient‑centered, evidence‑based nursing care for those with life‑limiting illness. 2. Provide expert symptom‑control assessment and psychological support to patients and significant others. 3. Deliver and develop teaching on Advance Care Planning, Personalised Care Plans, and Advanced Communication Training for the workforce. 4. Collaborate with the Integrated Mersey Palliative Care Team (IMPaCT) to advance service quality and incorporate national guidelines (NHS Cancer Plan, End‑of‑Life Care Strategy, NICE). 5. Participate in local, regional, and national audits; contribute to data collection and analysis. 6. Facilitate strategy and quality improvement projects, including service development, staffing, and workflow optimisation. **Required Skills:** - Strong clinical leadership and decision‑making. - In-depth knowledge of palliative care principles and NICE guidelines. - Proficiency in multidisciplinary teamwork and collaborative practice. - Excellent communication, teaching, and mentoring abilities. - Analytical skills for audit participation and evidence‑based practice improvements. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Registered Nurse with current UK registration. - Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Nursing (preferred). - Specialized NHS accreditation or recognised qualification in Palliative Care. - Prior experience as a Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist or equivalent advisory role highly desirable.
