Job Description
**Job Title:** Speech Language Pathologist **Role Summary:** Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders in acute care patients. Integrate interdisciplinary teamwork to achieve optimal functional outcomes, educate patients and caregivers, and support discharge planning. **Expectations:** - Evaluate patients for communication and swallowing impairments following physician referral. - Develop, implement, and manage individualized treatment plans. - Coordinate with nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, dietetics, and medical staff for holistic patient care. - Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and functional strategies. - Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record. **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Conduct comprehensive speech, language, and swallowing assessments using evidence‑based tools. 2. Design and deliver individualized therapeutic interventions (therapy sessions, swallowing exercises, augmentative communication). 3. Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounding and discharge planning. 4. Advise and train caregivers on home care protocols. 5. Monitor progress, modify treatment plans, and report outcomes to the care team. 6. Ensure compliance with infection control and safety policies. **Required Skills:** - Clinical assessment & intervention expertise in acute settings. - Strong coordination and communication with interdisciplinary teams. - Patient‑ and family‑education proficiency. - Proficiency with electronic medical records and documentation standards. - Ability to work autonomously and prioritize within fast‑paced environments. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology from an accredited program. - Current state license to practice Speech‑Language Pathology (e.g., Arizona). - BLS (Basic Life Support) certification. - Preferred: ≥2 years acute‑care experience; prior EHR usage; additional certifications in dysphagia, voice disorders, or pediatric speech pathology.
