Job Description
Job title: Financial Controller (12‑month Contract) Role Summary: The Financial Controller will oversee all accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, robust internal controls, and regulatory compliance. Working primarily with NetSuite, the role will manage month‑end and year‑end close processes, statutory financial statements, cash flow, and treasury functions while leading UK R&D tax credit submissions and audit coordination. Expectations: Deliver precise and compliant financial reports, maintain strong internal control frameworks, optimize NetSuite processes, and support strategic financial decision‑making. Demonstrate expertise in UK tax legislation, R&D credit claims, and life‑science industry financial dynamics, while partnering effectively with non‑financial stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: - Lead month‑end and year‑end close in NetSuite, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. - Prepare statutory financial statements in line with UK GAAP/IFRS and Companies Act requirements. - Manage cash flow forecasting, treasury activities, and working capital optimization. - Establish, document, and enforce internal controls and financial policies. - Prepare and submit UK R&D tax credit claims, coordinating with scientific/clinical teams and external advisors. - Monitor legislative changes in R&D tax policy and adjust claim strategies accordingly. - Optimize NetSuite configuration, workflows, and dashboards to improve reporting and operational efficiency. - Develop and monitor accounting KPIs and operational metrics. - Champion automation initiatives to reduce manual processes. - Coordinate external audits: provide audit files, reconciliations, analytical schedules, and ensure clean audit opinions. - Oversee VAT compliance and corporation tax return preparation, including tax provisioning and deferred tax calculations. - Maintain comprehensive tax documentation and support audits. Required Skills: - Advanced proficiency in NetSuite ERP (configuration, reporting, optimization). - Deep knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS, and UK corporate tax regulations. - Proven experience preparing and successfully claiming UK R&D tax credits (HMRC). - Strong internal control and risk management acumen. - Ability to translate complex accounting issues for non‑financial audiences. - Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and business‑partnering abilities. - Demonstrated aptitude for process automation and efficiency improvement. Required Education & Certifications: - Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with substantial post‑qualification senior finance experience. ---
