Job Title: Defense Science & Technology Intern – Graduate Computer Science (Summer 2026)
Role Summary:
Provide technical and research support to projects in numerical methods, machine learning, and computational physics within the Strategic Deterrence Directorate. Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technical staff to develop and test software, hardware, and operating systems, while conducting independent research under limited supervision and presenting findings through talks or posters.
Expectations:
- Graduate‑level student or recent graduate with a strong foundation in physics, engineering, mathematics, or computer science.
- Ability to apply advanced principles to solve technical problems, perform research, and communicate results clearly.
- Maintain a GPA ≥ 3.5 and demonstrate proficiency in relevant coding and analytical tools.
- Work independently on moderately complex technical assignments and contribute to collaborative projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Offer technical/research support for projects involving numerical methods, ML, and computational physics.
- Document, test, and modify laboratory software, hardware, and computer operating systems.
- Conduct independent research under limited direction, including data analysis, modeling, and simulation.
- Prepare and deliver presentations or poster sessions to convey research outcomes.
- Execute additional duties as assigned, maintaining adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
Required Skills:
- Proficient in programming languages (Python, C++).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities in physics, engineering, or computer science.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
