**Job Title:** Transport Manager
**Role Summary:**
Lead and oversee the transport division’s operational team—including HGV drivers, helpers, supervisors, weighbridge operators, and office staff—to ensure compliant, efficient, and cost‑effective logistics. Report to the Group Transport Manager, manage budgets, drive continuous improvement, and maintain high service standards across multiple depots and customer sites.
**Expectations:**
- Ensure full compliance with transport regulations, operating licences, and company policies.
- Optimize vehicle scheduling, routing, and resource utilisation.
- Maintain safety, reduce contamination incidents, and achieve budgetary targets.
- Provide strong leadership, develop staff, and uphold company values.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Supervise transport teams, coordinating daily operations, routes, and weighbridge activities.
- Enforce driver legal obligations (hours, licences, Digi‑card, DQC) and maintain up‑to‑date documentation.
- Manage non‑conformances, incidents, accidents, and customer complaints via internal audit software.
- Oversee contamination control procedures and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage the transport budget; drive cost efficiencies.
- Develop and update transport policies, procedures, and training programmes (including toolbox talks).
- Represent the company at regional legislative seminars; communicate regulatory changes to senior management.
- Liaise with HR for staffing, recruitment, performance reviews, absence, disciplinary and grievance processes.
- Coordinate with Service, Contracts, and Operations teams to meet SLA requirements and accurate tonnage movement.
- Ensure vehicle maintenance schedules are adhered to and health & safety standards are met.
**Required Skills:**
- Leadership and people‑management (performance, coaching, conflict resolution).
- In‑depth knowledge of transport legislation, compliance, and licensing.
- Strong planning, scheduling, and route optimisation abilities.
- Budgeting and financial control competence.
- Incident investigation, audit, and non‑conformance management.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and training delivery.
- Proficiency with transport management and audit software systems.
- Ability to work across multiple sites and adapt to changing operational demands.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Current Transport Manager CPC (International) qualification.
- Minimum 3 years supervisory experience in transport compliance, supervision, or management.
- Relevant secondary education (e.g., GCSE/A‑Levels) or equivalent; additional logistics/transport qualifications are advantageous.
