Job Description
**Job Title:** Data Centre Technician (6‑month contract, potential extension) **Role Summary:** Provide on‑site support for data centre operations, handling installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of servers, network equipment, and facility services to ensure high‑availability infrastructure. **Expectations:** - Work independently within agreed timelines. - Respond promptly to incidents and service requests. - Maintain compliance with safety, access, and data‑handling protocols. - Communicate clearly with internal teams and vendors. - Availability for standard UK business hours (Mon‑Fri, 9 am‑5 pm BST/GMT). **Key Responsibilities:** - Rack, stack, cable, and configure servers, switches, and related hardware. - Perform routine hardware diagnostics, replace faulty components, and upgrade CPUs, memory, drives, and cabling. - Coordinate with facilities for power, cooling, and cross‑connect services; escalate outages as needed. - Manage spare parts inventory and maintain accurate documentation of infrastructure and maintenance activities. - Collaborate with engineering on cybersecurity and network performance initiatives. - Liaise with vendor engineers to resolve warranty and support issues. - Proactively identify efficiency improvements and develop action plans. **Required Skills:** - 5+ years of hands‑on experience in data centre or similar technical environment. - Strong knowledge of server hardware, network devices, power/cooling systems, and cross‑connects. - Proven troubleshooting, repair, and upgrade skills for servers and networking gear. - Excellent organizational, time‑management, and documentation abilities. - Effective verbal and written communication. - Ability to operate autonomously in a 24/7 high‑availability setting. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Minimum secondary education (high school diploma or equivalent); technical or engineering degree preferred. - Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Network+, Cisco CCNA, or vendor‑specific hardware certifications) are advantageous but not mandatory.
