Job Description
Job Title: Accessibility Intern – Student Technical Assistant Role Summary: A paid, full‑time 6‑month internship focused on supporting the Information Technology Branch’s Accessibility Section. The intern will remediate documents, test courses, assist with procurement, track tickets, ensure compliance with accessibility laws, and contribute to specialist projects under the Web and Content Accessibility Manager. Expectations: - Complete 60 credit‑hour coursework in Education, Computer Science, Human‑Computer Interaction, Information Technology, or a related field. - Consent to a State and FBI (CJIS) background check. - Submit cover letter, résumé, academic transcripts, and proof of work eligibility by the application deadline. Key Responsibilities: - Perform accessibility remediation on Word, PowerPoint, and PDF documents. - Conduct accessibility testing of online courses; track status and maintain records. - Create agendas, schedule meetings, and take minutes for accessibility‐related meetings. - Review procurement documents to ensure inclusion of approved accessibility language. - Enter and track accessibility tickets for digital tools and remediation requests. - Review new legislation and policies; compare with current standards and identify impacts. - Assist in implementing specialized accessibility initiatives and projects. - Independently research technical solutions and acquire new skills through shadowing and self‑study. - Provide general administrative support to the IT department as needed. Required Skills: - Strong knowledge of web and document accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA). - Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) and PDF editing tools. - Ability to perform and document accessibility testing. - Excellent written and oral communication; meeting coordination. - Detail‑oriented and organized with experience in ticket tracking or project management. - Quick learner with self‑directed research capabilities. Required Education & Certifications: - Currently enrolled or completed at least 60 credit hours in an approved field (Education, Computer Science, HCI, IT, or related). - No specific certifications required; familiarity with accessibility standards preferred.
