Job Description
**Job title** Project Officer, Literacy Champions **Role Summary** Coordinate regional activation of the Literacy Champions volunteer programme and manage delivery of the Doncaster Literacy Hub. Recruit, train and support volunteers across Yorkshire and Humber, develop partnership links with schools and community organisations, and oversee resource management to advance the National Year of Reading objectives. **Expectations** - Deliver volunteer mobilisation and training within target communities. - Build a new volunteer network from ground up. - Manage and optimise local literacy hub activities. - Travel locally and nationally as required (London staff days, team days). - Maintain accurate records of book stocks and volunteer hours. **Key Responsibilities** 1. Identify, engage and support volunteer groups and organisations in Yorkshire and Humber. 2. Design and deliver Literacy Champions training materials and sessions (online and in‑person). 3. Manage recruitment, onboarding and ongoing support for first‑time and experienced volunteers. 4. Coordinate hub activities in Doncaster, targeting Key Stage 2 and early years in priority wards. 5. Develop partnership strategies with schools, early‑years settings and community groups to expand reach. 6. Maintain safeguarding practices and signpost resources for volunteers. 7. Manage inventory of books, resources and related logistics. 8. Provide regular reports on volunteer engagement, activity outcomes and resource utilisation to central teams. **Required Skills** - Volunteer management experience (recruitment, training, support). - Project coordination and organisational skills. - Knowledge of safeguarding in educational/community settings. - Experience working with early‑years, primary schools or community organisations. - Strong communication, networking and relationship‑building abilities. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic digital tools (online training platforms). **Required Education & Certifications** - Minimum level: A‑level or equivalent qualification. - Relevant volunteer management or community development training preferred. - Full, clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. ---
